It’s official, DEI and Ginn Racing are merging. After a couple of weeks of complete uncertainty Ginn Racing is effectively no more. Strating this weekend at Indy the DEI/Ginn team will be fielding cars for Dale Jr, Martin Truex, Mark Martin/Aric Almirola and Paul Menard.
At this stage it appears that the points and it’s 34th place in the owner points standings for the current Ginn 13 car will transfer over to the 15 Paul Menard team, and the 13 and 14 cars will no longer be run, leaving Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemecheck out looking for rides, this right on the heals of an announcement saying that the 13 car would be driven by Nemecheck at Indy.
Also facing uncertainty at this time is Regan Smith. He has done well sharing the car with Mark Martin so far this year, and had done enough to be moved across tot he 14 car by himself for the rest of the year, but all of a sudden there is no 14 car, and his seat in the 01 has been taken by Alimorola.
Smith will be racing a truck this weekend with Ginn sponsorship, but his future after that is not known and has not been announced. Hopefully somewhere he will end up in a ride, otherwise another young star will fall by the wayside.
As far as the “merger” goes, the teams will be combined, with Bobby Ginn remaining a partner, but in essence according to the reports around right now Ginn Raicng will disappear and DEI will become a 4 car team, with a new partner in Ginn, managed by existing DEI personnel.
